A dining table is where meals happen, homework gets done, and conversations run late into the evening. It’s one of the hardest-working pieces of furniture in any home, which is why solid oak makes sense. Our oak dining tables are built to handle daily life for decades, not years.

Choosing the Right Size

Allow 60cm width per person when seated. For four people, you need at least 120cm. For six, look at 150cm or longer. For eight or more, you’re into 180cm+ territory.

Measure your dining room and leave at least 90cm between the table edge and walls or furniture. That gives enough space to pull chairs out comfortably without scraping walls.

Extending tables are the practical choice if you entertain occasionally but don’t want a large table taking up space day-to-day. Most of ours extend to seat two to four extra guests when needed.

Table Shapes

Rectangular tables fit most rooms and seat the most people per square foot. They work well against walls or in the centre of a room.

Round tables suit smaller spaces and create a more intimate feel. Everyone can see everyone else, which works well for conversation. No head of the table either, if that matters to you.

Square tables work well for four people in compact spaces. Some extend into rectangles when you need extra seats.

Caring for Your Table

Use placemats and coasters to protect the surface from heat and moisture. Wipe spills quickly with a soft cloth. A quality furniture wax once or twice a year keeps the finish looking fresh. Unlike veneer or laminate, solid oak can be sanded and refinished if it ever needs it.
