A sideboard earns its place in the dining room by doing several things at once. It stores plates, glasses, cutlery and table linen, gives you a surface for serving food when you’ve got people round, and anchors the room visually in a way that a display cabinet or dresser doesn’t quite manage. Our solid oak sideboards run from compact two-door units at around 80cm wide up to large four-door pieces at 200cm and beyond. Prices start from around £330 and most fall between £400 and £700 for standard sizes.

Most of our range is solid European oak with a natural lacquered finish. The grain varies quite a bit between ranges. Keswick and Chatsworth tend to run warmer with more visible character. Cornwall Oak is paler and cleaner if you prefer a lighter feel. We also carry a strong selection of painted oak sideboards in off-white, grey, ivory and stone, many with a natural oak top that gives a two-tone finish. If you want something with a bit more visual interest, the Malvern herringbone sideboard is worth a look, with a parquet-patterned front that stands out from the standard door-and-drawer format.

Getting the width right matters more than most people think. Allow 10 to 15cm clearance either side of the sideboard for it to look intentional rather than squeezed in. A 137cm three-door unit is the most common choice for standard dining rooms and covers most storage needs. For larger rooms or families with a full dinner service to store, a 166 to 200cm four-door sideboard makes sense. Compact two-door units at 80 to 96cm are a solid choice for smaller dining rooms or anywhere you want a sideboard without it dominating the wall. Check the depth too as most run between 35 and 45cm, and that matters if the sideboard sits behind where chairs pull out.

Several models in the range include wine racks built into the base or alongside the cupboard section, which is handy if you don’t have separate wine storage. Drawers are standard on most sideboards and keep cutlery and smaller items separated from the shelf space inside the cupboards. If you’re not sure whether you want a sideboard or a dresser, the short version is this: sideboards are lower with a flat top surface, better for serving and displaying items. Dressers add an upper shelf section, which is good for showing china but takes up more wall height. You can browse our kitchen dressers separately if that’s the direction you’re heading.

All sideboards include UK mainland delivery, usually within three to four weeks. Warehouse stock ships faster. Spread the cost with 0% finance on orders over £500.
