Books are heavy. A metre of standard paperbacks weighs around 20kg, and chipboard shelves bow under that within a year or two. Our solid oak bookcases are built with proper joints and thick shelves that won’t sag, whether you’re filling them with novels, cookbooks, or the kind of hardbacks that cost more than most people spend on furniture. Prices start from £200 for a compact unit and go up to just over £1,000 for larger pieces with doors and drawers.

We stock oak bookcases in a wide range of sizes. Tall oak bookcases from around 180 to 200cm make the most of wall space and suit larger rooms with high ceilings. Low bookcases, usually under 100cm, work well under windows or as room dividers, with the top surface doubling as display space. And if you’re trying to fill a narrow alcove or hallway gap, we have slim oak shelving units from around 50 to 64cm wide that fit without wasting space. Most models come with adjustable shelves so you can reconfigure around taller art books, box sets, or whatever else ends up on them. Some also have a cupboard section below for storage you’d rather not leave on display.

Most of our bookcases are solid European oak with a natural lacquered finish. If you want a lighter look, the Cornwall Oak and Opus ranges both have a clean pale tone. For something with more grain and character, the Keswick Rustic leans darker and more traditional. We also carry painted options in off-white and white if you prefer a bookcase that blends into lighter walls rather than standing out as a wood piece. The Bordeaux is worth a look if you want something with real presence, a tall two-door unit with glass panels and a back board that frames the contents properly.

Bookcases work in more rooms than you’d think. Living rooms are the obvious choice, but a tall oak bookcase in a home office keeps reference books and files within arm’s reach without the clutter of a filing cabinet. Narrow units suit hallways where you’d otherwise have a blank wall. And a low bookcase at the end of a bedroom functions as both storage and a display surface for the kind of things that end up on the floor otherwise.

All bookcases include UK mainland delivery, with most arriving within three to four weeks. Warehouse pieces ship faster, usually within seven to fourteen working days. Spread the cost with 0% finance on orders over £500, or come and see the full range in our Huddersfield showroom before buying. Complete your living room with a matching TV unit, coffee table, or display cabinet from the same range.
